Village and town at odds over fire service in area that includes Carrier Circle and I-481

DeWitt, NY – East Syracuse village officials say they need $800,000 more from DeWitt to keep providing fire protection to a northern swath of the town that includes more than 2,000 homes, part of the Thruway and Interstate 81, and Carrier Circle and its hotels.
The extra money would go toward hiring and training eight paid firefighters, a move needed to combat the industry’s declining number of volunteer responders, the village says.
